Val Imm Dry Goods Store – Circa 1920

July 24, 2021 //  by Kevin Koehler//  Leave a Comment

Tom Lemmage was able to share this information about the building. “This was a candy store across the street from the white bank (ABC lettering now). A later picture of this building has a sign for Ive’s Ice Cream. This photo was taken before Schlief’s garage was built which dates it prior to 1915.”

From research Perry Buffy found, Imm’s moved to Rockford in 1915. August Imm was the father and a Lutheran preacher, however he is not recorded as a pastor at any of the Rockford churches based on our research. Both Val and his brother Martin Imm were in the 1920 Rockford Community band. Val was the conductor of the band as well. Perry’s additional comments: “These were clearly very devout people. They moved to Mankato area sometime after here. Val became a merchant and a newspaper editor, then a State Senator. His brother Martin (who also lived in Rockford) became a missionary…looks like he was also a pastor. They were devoted to Bethany Lutheran High School and College (now only a college) in Mankato. Mankato has a Val Imm Drive and MSU has an archive of his papers. His daughter became a newspaper columnist and philanthropist in Dallas TX as an adult.”
