Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are essential to the Rockford Area Historical Society. Whether you enjoy gardening, working with people, doing research, or are interested in serving on the organization’s Board of Trustees, there are plenty of volunteer options available. The assistance volunteers give allows the Historical Society to provide visitors with an exceptional experience. Opportunities are available weekly, monthly or seasonally.

Regular Volunteers

Regular Volunteers

Much like memberships, regular volunteers provide the sustaining branch on which the operation and maintenance of the Ames-Florida-Stork House rests.

Regular Volunteers are enlisted to perform assigned duties on a regular basis, generally weekly or monthly. They benefit the RAHS by creating and maintaining consistency in day-to-day operation of the House. Examples of opportunities for regular volunteers include weekly upkeep of our garden and plant beds, watching the House during opening hours when the Director is unavailable, serving on the Board of Trustees, or cleaning and maintaining the many rooms of the AFS House.

Project Volunteers

Project Volunteers

Are you interested in putting special skills to use? Have you visited before and have an artifact or story that caught your attention? If so, become a Project Volunteer!

Project Volunteers will dedicate their time to specific projects around the house or dealing with its history. They will often have special skills or interests that lend themselves to individual or group projects that can be completed over a set period of time. Past projects include the transcription and digitization of Stork Family Diaries, conservation and cataloging of books throughout the House, and taking photographs of the House and grounds to be used in brochures, newsletters, etc.

Event Volunteers

Event Volunteers

As seasons change, the city of Rockford and surrounding communities celebrate the occasions with festivals, parades, fairs and expos. As an Event Volunteer you would work to ensure that our involvement in these events runs smoothly and continues successfully for years to come.

Provide assistance with events such as the Pie & Iced Cream Social, the Annual Meeting, Christmas Tea, the Harvest Festival, and more! These are fun, community engaging events that really allow the Ames-Florida-Stork House to showcase everything that it has to offer. If you enjoy working with people, becoming an Event Volunteer is the perfect opportunity to connect with the surrounding community.
