Above is a photo of Rockford’s schoolhouse that was built in 1875. Prior to 1875, school was held in a portion of a house on Main Street. This building was located south of highway 55 and east of Maple Street, and only grades 1-8 were taught in it. By 1917 when this photo was taken the schoolhouse was too small to accommodate the growing student population. That school year students would move into a new school off Ash Street for grades 1-12. Thank you to Edie Droneck for sharing this photo with us. Connection to family? The house on the right is where Johnny & Elsie Mutterer lived for over 50 years.
