Thank you to those who shared this wonderful postcard of the Rockford Centennial Hotel. The building was built in 1876 by Louis Allars not long after Rockford’s first hotel called the “Rockford House” was consumed by fire and destroyed. The details in this photo lead me to believe this was taken prior to 1910. The trees in front are much younger than other photos we have of the Centennial Hotel. There is a horse buggy by the wire fencing. In the far back on the right side of the photo I believe the Rockford Creamery can be seen. This building is still in use on Mechanic Street as rental units.
