The Johnson Brother’s store did well, and the brothers (Frank & Chester Johnson) added to their businesses with a meat market, grain dealership, shares in the Rockford Creamery and in livestock operations. They amassed over 5000 acres of land, had 1500 acres under till, and in 1899, they opened the first bank in Rockford. The brothers first operated the State Bank of Rockford out of their general store which is on this postcard. In 1909 they built a new building to house the bank. This building still stands and is the brick building on the NW corner of Bridge St. and Main St.
