Pictured is Rockford’s first village school that was built in 1860. The building was located on Walnut Street roughly where Cross Lutheran’s parsonage is today. Thank you to Paul Hubler who saved an old photograph of the Advent Church, the school was in the background. This building served as Rockford’s village school until 1879 when the new and larger building by Cherry Street was built. The school on Walnut Street and the lot was sold to George and Mary Perkins for $85.
