Albert E. Hokenstein and Erich G. Wasserman, maternal and paternal grandfathers of Rick Wassermann respectively, both served in WWI.
Albert E. Hokenstein was born in Greenwood, MN in 1891. He both farmed in the area, and worked at the Rockford Creamery. He served as Sgt. 88th Div. Field Artillery, A.E.F. in WWI.
Erich G. Wassermann was born in Shermen, Saxony, Germany in 1892. He served as a Corporal for the Imperial German, Rifleman in WWI. He and his children immigrated to the States in 1927. He worked near St. James, MN and later started a bakery on West Broadway in Minneapolis.
Although both men served in the war, they did not face each other directly.
