2008 Kid's Kamps
The format for this year's Kid's Kamps has changed.  Kamps are now offered on Mondays
through June and July, and each Kamp has a specific theme with related activities.  Designed
to encourage and nuture a love of history in children, this year's Kamps allow students to
experience a "day in the life" from our shared story.

"A Day in the Life: '40s Housewife," June 16, 9:30am - 2:00pm
A day camp for girls ages 10-12
This Kamp is based on the lives of the Stork Family and focuses on how women transformed
the home front during and after World War II.
Activities include:
~ Making and sending a care package to soldiers
currently serving overseas
~ Saving pennies in a handmade piggybank
Price:  $32 members / $36 non-members
$5 materials fee

"A Day in the Life: Junior Curator," June 30, 9:30am - 3:30pm
A day camp for students ages 12-15
Discover how museum staff care for its collections.  Participants will learn how to catalog
and display the artifacts at the Stork House.
Activities include:
~ A tour of collections storage areas
~ A hands-on introduction to proper handling and exhibiting techniques
Price:  $43 members / $48 non-members

"A Day in the Life: Art on the Crow River," July 14, 9:30am - 2:00pm
A day camp for children ages 9-11
Students will learn how Native Americans and early explorers used the natural environment
around the Crow River to communicate and make art.  Using similar methods, they will
make different projects to take home.
Activities include:
~ Journal making
~ Artwork through watercolors, stamping and image transfer
Price:  $32 members / $36 non-members
$5 materials fee

"A Day in the Life: Pioneer Adventures, " July 28, 9:30am - 2:00pm
A day camp for children ages 9-11
Based on the stories of Rockford's founding fathers George Ames, Joel Florida and Guilford
George, this Kamp explores city-building.  Children will be given pioneer identities and will play a
role in their newly created town of Rockford.
Activities include:
~ Map and journal making
Price:  $32 members / $36 non-members
